Strategic Nonviolence Policy Adopted by EarthSave - San Diego Chapter
Sunday, January 21, 2001
The definition of strategic nonviolence (also recognized as Gandhian nonviolence) is a type of methodology for any form of organized activism. EarthSave - San Diego Chapter has adopted this approach as the most effective way to promote the EarthSave mission to educate, inspire, and empower people to shift towards a plant-based diet and to take compassionate action for all life here on Earth. As an explanation of strategic nonviolence, it is easiest to break it down into its components:
Strategic and Inclusive
Our efforts support strive to reach the long-term goals, rather than find short-term solutions. When we create an event calendar, implement outreach programs, or develop awareness campaigns, we ask, What will be the long-term consequences of our actions?
Compassionate and Nonviolent
The chapter's definition of nonviolence includes physical violence as well as actions designed to cause fear in others. We recognize that people come from all walks of life, and we treat all people with respect, regardless of whether or not they agree with us.
Open and Honest
All of our chapter's plans and actions are conducted without secrecy or dishonesty to mislead others. All of our meetings, events, programs, campaigns, and initiatives are open to everyone regardless whereever they may be on the dietary food spectrum, as well as age, race, creed, class, origin, political status, sexual orientation, or disability. This promotes a non-judgemental chapter culture.
Reliable and Accountable
We stand behind all of the information we present, and we take responsibility for our actions that may come about from it.
